FAQS

When next does the courses start?

Satrt by learning a language today by booking your course using our enrolment form . Start by choosing your location, language and course type, etc. Register today to ensure your place on the course of your choice, and don’t forget to check our special offers for our current offers and discounts before you enrol.

How much will I learn during the course?

What will I learn?

Our Course Outlines give an overview of the content and learning framework of Lextorah part-time group courses and include themes, grammar and vocabulary you can typically expect to cover. These are intended as a guide only and our teachers may at times adapt the course content to suit the specific level, aims and interests of the class.

What progress will I have made by the end of the level?
Our ‘Can Do’ Statements provide a guide as to what you can expect to achieve at each level and also show what progress you can expect to make if you stick with it and carry on studying subsequent levels. These are guides only and other factors will affect your rate of progress, e.g. your prior language skills and base level, how proficient you are at picking up new languages, your level of participation in class and revision (and homework) outside of class. It will partially also depend on how difficult (or dissimilar) the language you are learning is (from your native language).

How do you choose your teachers?

All our teachers are native or bilingual speakers and fluent in the language they teach. They have specialist qualifications and experience in Teaching a Foreign Language to Children, Teens and Adults.

Do teachers speak English during the Lessons?

The first month is a mixture of both languages. The second month is the language of study only because the most effective way to learn or improve your language skills is through complete immersion in the language. However, the occasional explanation or vocabulary term may be explained in English, and teachers are very used to teaching – and making themselves understood by – students who may have little or no prior knowledge of the language.

Do I receive a Certificate at the end of the course?

At the end of your course with us, you either receive a certificate of participation or a certificate of completion, sent to you by email or you collect it in person. This confirms the language and level of course you have taken. Our certifcates are recognised in Nigeria and Africa. For Universally accepted certifcates, we advise students to sit for foreign exam(s) that qualifies them for an internationally recognised certificate, which will be issued to them upon passing the exam(s).

Will I be issued course materials or a copy of the CD/Listening materials that are used in the class??

When you enrol for any our couses you will be issued course materials. However, we do recommend textbooks at times as the course demands, in such a case, you will have to buy the textbook at the school bookstore.
Please note that some course materials covers more than one level. So if you progress to the next course, you may not necessarily be issued a new course material. Again, we will advise you of this at the time.
The course materials and textbooks are chosen by our teachers and academic team based on which book is most suitable for the level of the class whilst offering the most communicative approach.
Will I get a copy of the CD / listening materials that are used in the class?
No, our coursebook CDs are designed to be used in class and with a teacher; they are not designed for self study. However, if you would like to buy a copy of the listening material that goes with your coursebook, you can either order online at our bookstore,

How much homework is typically involved?

Your teacher will give you approximately one hour’s worth of formal homework per week but we would recommend you do thirty minutes per day of self study in order to assimilate and retain the information you are learning.

What should I do if my course is too easy or difficult for me?

If you have just completed your first lesson and are feeling a little overwhelmed, then don’t worry. Lextorah language courses are taught in the target language, as full immersion is widely recognised as the most effective way to learn a language. You may find this a little daunting at first, especially if you have previously been used to bi-lingual tuition.
However, if you are attending an 8-week course and find that you are really struggling to keep up, or finding the course content too easy, you can switch classes up until your 3rd lesson. Please speak to your teacher and contact us. We will assess the situation and look to move you to a class more suited to your ability (subject to availability).

What do I do if I am going to miss a lesson during the course?

We recommend that you tell your teacher and Lextorah Administration via email as soon as you know that you are going to miss a class.Your teacher can email you with an outline of what was covered in the class you missed, along with any homework set and what part of the textbook was used. In the interest of course continuity, please note you will not be able to take an alternative lesson with another class at the centre. If on your return, you class is still in progress you can join the class, however, if on your return, your class has ended, no make up class(es) will be made available and your class will be deemed as taken. Please refer to your course confirmation document.

What do I do if I am going to miss the first lesson?

Please do let us know so that we can pass a message on to your teacher.

What if my teacher is ill during the cours?

If your teacher is ill during the course, we will organise a cover teacher to take your lesson. If no cover teacher is available, we will reschedule the lesson to take place on a different day or give you a refund for the class (depending on the circumstances).

How big are the classes?

To ensure optimal course quality and enjoyment, our maximum class size is 8 -12 students per class for face-to-face courses. If our group course takes place online the maximum class size is 8 -10. Note: Lextorah cannot offer any lessons on a trial basis.

  • Chinese class has been great, lots to learn and sometimes the thought of that makes it seem all too hard and impossible to learn but overtime with constant practice it started to make a whole lotta sense. i've been able to learn more of the greetings, numbers and ways of communicating basically and with more practice i'm certain Chinese would be more fluent for me, many thanks to Lextorah for this medium. xie xie, zaijian.
